Battling some early game foul trouble, the Eagles stayed patient yet persistent in their opening round game at the MICDS Holiday Invitational.
The 7th seed, Liberty Eagles, defeated the 10 seed Lutheran North 58-39. Liberty tallied 20 of their points in 24 attempts from the charity stripe.
Kale Catchings would lead all scorers with 20 points, 7 of which came in the form of free throws. Jayce Catchings finished with 16, going 10-10 from the free throw line. Sims would join the Catchings as the only other player in double figures for the Eagles, getting 13 points (2-2 from the FT Line).
While it doesn’t show directly on the scoreboard, Kent Lawson played a big factor in the Eagles success on Friday night. During the first quarter with Kale Catchings on the bench with 2 early fouls, it was Lawson who protected the paint with several deflection and blocks. Andy Jorris also played big with several offensive rebounds during a 3rd quarter run where the Eagles separated themselves from Lutheran North.
Liberty advances to play Whitfield on December 26th, 6:30pm at MICDS. Whitfield defeated O’Fallon Christian in their opening round game.
