March 3 – The stage is set for the Class 4, District 8 Championship game as the host Liberty Eagles will face the Fulton Hornets. Both teams enjoyed convincing victories in their District semi final games.
Fulton got off to a fast start against St. Dominic on Tuesday, tallying the game’s first 13 points when senior guard Jared Peery knocked down three consecutive 3-pointers and Justin Adams and senior guard Devin Masek both added baskets. The Hornets were on top 19-5 at the end of the first quarter.
Cameron Vaughn connected for a game-high 24 points to steer three players in double figures for Fulton, which shot a blazing 66 percent (23-of-35) as a team. Adams made three of the Hornets’ seven 3-pointers in finishing with 15 points, while Peery hit four treys to provide 12 points.
Key for the Eagles will be closing out on perimeter shooters and controlling the boards. The Eagles will have the size and length advantage, however the Hornets have been here before, losing in the District Championship game last year to Kirksville.
Fulton controlled the tempo for most of their semi final game vs. St. Dominic. The Eagles will look to speed up the Hornets and capitalize on turnovers producing points in transition.
The District Championship game is Friday, 6pm at Liberty High School.
